From Silicon Valley to Washington – and Beyond

Nothing is more important than staying close to your customers – to understand their products, their business, their challenges and opportunities. We live this philosophy every day at Nimble Storage, with field teams worldwide and customers in 53 countries across the globe.

We recently opened our largest sales office to date in Bethesda, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C., with an opening event attended by a number of Nimble executives, customers, and resellers. The evening also marked the introduction of our Predictive Flash Platform, and Carahsoft being named the Nimble Storage Federal Partner of the Year 2015.

The new office provides space for field sales, channel, and field engineering teams, and includes a demo lab where we can run local POCs (proof of concept trials) with customer data, using Cisco UCS servers and networking plus Nimble arrays. It also provides us with the opportunity to more aggressively serve both the Federal and mid-Atlantic East coast markets.

Given the massive scalability and built-in encryption of our All Flash and Adaptive Flash arrays, we naturally have a number of customers in defense and other parts of the federal government. But you’d be surprised by how many other Nimble customers are in this area, serving markets from biotech and pharma to manufacturing, R&D, robotics, and data service providers. Being physically close makes it much easier to spend time face-to-face with these customers, resulting in a better understanding of their use cases, requirements, timelines, deliverables, and service level agreements. It also provides a great environment for collaboration between Sales and our other teams.

Additional factors that attracted us to this location included:

  • Being centrally located between the three major airports, with direct access to convenient transportation, including the Metro and parking;
  • Excellent amenities within the building, including restaurants, retail shops, a gym and a conference center;
  • Room for our current team of 30, with plenty of space for future growth;
  • Bethesda is revitalizing the downtown area with a number of new restaurants, hotels, shopping, and other social interests.

The space itself was another factor, as it resembles our airy, light-filled headquarters in Silicon Valley, as well as our offices in New York, Chicago, and Scottsdale, AZ. There’s an open floor plan, where teams can easily collaborate with one another, and we’ve built out the lab and painted the space to match the look-and-feel of the Nimble offices worldwide.

But it’s not just the physical office space – the Nimble company culture also has an “open floor plan”. Engineers and other smart people have their pick of where they want to work these days, so at Nimble we offer challenging and engaging work. What’s more, our corporate culture is unique, with a heavy focus on employee engagement. We’re responsive to what makes a great place to work, and have implemented many programs based on specific feedback from our employees.

With the opening of the Bethesda office, we’re now at more than 1,200 employees worldwide, with more than 7,500 customers. Where will we grow to next? Stay tuned.
